Painted Dogs, 2009
The Windsor Education Foundation made an open call to artists to create concepts for painted fiberglass dogs. The dogs would be auctioned off for the Paws for a Cause event. Local businesses picked out and sponsored the artists to bring the concept to life. I was fortunate to have 2 of my ideas picked!
The first dog was named "Shad" after the local yearly fishing contest called the Shad Derby. It was originally designed for the Dachshund because of it's long shape like a fish, but by request it was adapted to the Lab. I gave him glittery scales and added some taxidermy eyes for a realistic look. "Shad" auctioned off to an awesome dog boarding kennel!
The Second dog is named "Grand Marshal, Shad Derby." It was designed for the bulldog, whose personality has a grand presence. I fabricated a top hat out of fiberglass & bondo and a monocle & chain to dress him up for the occasion. He ended up winning 1st Place, Best in Show at the Paws for a Cause unveiling of the painted dogs. He auctioned off to the local veterinarian. Hopefully their patrons enjoy him as much as I did creating him!
